[PD] long startup time (watchdog warnings) and most externals fail to load

Hi, I have some problems with pd on archlinux x86_64: they occur both
with pd vanilla 0.45.5 (from official repositories) and pd-extended
0.43.4 (from AUR) - though it's the latter I'd like to use, so future
outputs are to be considered from pd-extended 0.43.4

When I start it from terminal I get lots of "watchdog: signaling pd"
lines, and it takes about 2 minutes to start the gui, at which point
those watchdog warnings stop. Here's the output from terminal:

and when the gui finally starts there's a bunch of errors in the log,
which I've pasted at the bottom of the mail. It seems to have some
problems loading externals? it does find some files but most of them
are missing from /usr/lib/pd-extedned/extra 

Now, I don't know if the two problems are related; I'd certainly like
to solve the first one, to have a normal startup time, but I'd also
need to use some externals it's failing to load, so second problem
would be nice to solve also 

Only thing I found in the archives was regarding wicd (which I do
use) not being properly configured, bringing to a problem with pd
trying to reach "localhost" which was not set. Though I don't think
this is the culprit in my case, since I have many services running on
this pc accessible both from itself and from the LAN.

Otherwise I'm at a loss. I'm new to pd and I don't even know how to
test if the externals are actually working - any hints on that?

Though this problem appeared also without further externals installed,
I have to mention I now have also installed this external

with its dependencies (including for example the pd-pure external which
interfaces with the pure programming language), all from their AUR
packages (Archlinux User Repository, a collection of build scripts).
This us ultimately what I want to use pd for BTW (interfacing with the
android TouchOSC app).
