I think, "aliases" might work better here:
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Asoundrc#Aliases

The idea would be to define your own alias names for the USB cards like: 

    pcm.firstusb {
        type hw
        card 1
        device 0
    }

    pcm.secondusb {
        type hw
        card 2
        device 0
    }

and then use 

$ pd -alsa -audioadddev "secondusb"

But I've no idea if this actually works ... :(
