[PD] questions about updating GUI

hi list,

i would appreciate when somebody wants to / can answer some questions 
about the updating of the GUI.

i've a Pd GUI as front-end for controlling Arduino's.
there's numberboxes and buttons/toggles with changing colors.
of course it's necessary that the visual aids are not disrupting the 
stream of data from and to the Arduino's.

every now and then on this list there are warnings about having too many 
GUI updated too frequently.

- this has all to do with how Pd internally handles the updating?

- is there a difference in how Vanilla and PDextended do this?

(on the webpage for PDext 43.4 a complete rewrite of the GUI process is 
mentioned
and "GUI objects no longer send pointless draw updates, reducing GUI 
load ").

- does the (influence of the) updating concern only the on screen 
visible GUI objects?

- does it make a diffence when a GUI object is part of an abstraction?
