the checksums are not used (yet).
however, this is not what i meant.
what i did mean is, that each and every DLL installed on your system is
likely to have bugs and poses a security risk.
on package-managed systems (such as most linux distributions), there are
people who dedicate their time to make sure that any library installed
on *your* system gets security fixes.
this is something that cannot be expected by the pd externals maintainer.
