doing so, i think i found the source of my problem:

no printout on the cmd-terminal

but in the PD window (among many other things), it says:

GEM: image loading support: SGI

i received this version from lucas, and i'm pretty sure it wasn't 
compiled with all image support stuff, because the official build 
(0.93.3) says:

Image loading support: QT SGI jpeg tiff


so i guess that is that.
