[PD] [GEM] gem 0.94 / pix_record / mp4 / x264 H264 codec not working

Hi all,

I have a computer running ubuntu 18.04, gem 0.94 and pd 0.52-2.

I am trying to export a video in mp4 container with the h264 codec. the
codeclist message lists it as codec 0:

print: codec 0 x264 H.264 (MPEG4 AVC) encoder

However, when I send the message "codec 0" I get:

[pix_record]: invalid codec# 0 (0..35)

also if I record a video with no codec message (assuming the default codec
is 0) I get the printout in the terminal where i opened pd, as printed at
the end of this email** and I can see a noticeable loss of quality in the
recorded video.

Can anyone point to me to what the problem might be and might anyone
recommend a high quality (or lossless?) codec for HD videos?
