I know that you know, but for clarity's sake: single vs. double 
precision is unrelated to 32 vs 64 bits.

@Dan

I think there's no configure flag (yet). In the meantime you can compile 
Pd with

make CPPFLAGS="-DPD_FLOATSIZE=64"
