[PD] GEM and video playback broken in MacOS?

Greetings.
A colleague told me that I shouldn't upgrade to the
Big Sur MacOS because starting with that release (and
in all subsequent ones) GEM and video in general
stop working. Can anyone verify this? And if it's
true, have the GEM developers posted anything about
future functionality?
