OK, I probably know now why .png files are not mentioned in the [ggee/image]
help file.
.png images can have transparency.

I made myself a background picture that happend to have some transparency in
the .png file.
This messed up my patch big time ! ! !

Some stuff didn't show up anymore at all or other subpatches didn't even
load after this!
Other (not directly related) subpatches were unreadable at this point.
My main patch that is usually made unvisible could not be made visible
anymore with [pd-mainpatch.pd vis 1(.
( I'm still trying to figure this out . . . )

It took me half a day to find this out since I could not make quite a few of
patches visible anymore.
Without having backup patches a lot of things would have been totally lost.
The -noloadbang flag (which helps in many of these cases) didn't help
because the image was stored with the [ggee/image].

You really have to watch out for this!

Thanks for letting us know, Oliver!

I didn't try that and didn't expect it because the help file does only
mention gif, ppm and pgm formats.
.png is much easier since I don't have to convert it and can look at it from
any os without extra software.

On a sidenote:

[ggee/image] also opens .png files, whereas [iem_image] does not !

Does anyone know why is that ?

best
