Sampling in pop was common, when "white men" "sampled" "black men's"
music (Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Stones, Sinatra,...) and it became
illegal, when that was tried to turn around (Biz Markie!).

And then MJ bought the Beatles songs...

Go figure...
