[PD-ot] PhD Studentship: Interactive Technology in Music Performance

The Research Department at Birmingham Conservatoire invites applications for a three-year full-time PhD studentship.

A full-time bursary of £13,920 will be provided, and PhD fees will be covered by the University.

The studentship is offered for commencement in September 2011 in an area consonant with the research strategy at Birmingham Conservatoire. Areas of special relevance to our research include composition, interactive performance and live electronics, performance studies, music criticism, late medieval music theory, French and Italian Baroque, late nineteenth- and twentieth-century French music, film music and cognate studies.

Current part-time students may apply for a two- or three-year full-time programme.

Birmingham Conservatoire has a very lively research department. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise almost 50% of its research outputs were judged to be either world-leading or internationally excellent. It has awarded PhDs since 1993 and has an excellent completion rate.
