i do not think that mod_rewrite can help us.
the base-url has not changed but the individual files have been renamed!

what happened:
a) i have finally migrated the old listman archives to mailman.
mails used to be two or three times in the archives (because of
re-building the archives) which took quite some disk-space on our
servers. (the pd-list archive alone without any duplicates takes about
250MB)); furthermore there is a new search-engine that is really fast.
so, for convenience reasons, the archives have been re-indexed.

b) i have received emails of subscribers who complained that their
email-address is visible in plain-text on the archives. this i consider
a real privacy problem. therefore a better email hiding algorithm is now
used and i have (again) rebuilt the archives.

what we could do is direct the 404 to the search-engine of the archive.
would this be ok ?
