The main ttl only affects positive lookup cache time, so when you
create a new name, then it usually becomes active immediately. The
positive cache time will only affect changes afterwards. If you had
previously set the negative cache time for apt.puredata.info to a
week a long time beforehand, then nameservers would cache the
negative result, as in no IP for that name. But that's a separate
setting.

I probably won't get to it for a bit anyway, so I guess I am just
being pedantic.

If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of
exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an
idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps
it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into
the possession of everyone, and the receiver cannot dispossess
himself of it. - Thomas Jefferson
