how's that related to compiling Pd on OSX?

only" :-)

seriously, deken does not come with any externals/libraries/...

what it does it provide an interface to search for plugins.
currently it searches uploads to puredata.info (where the uploaded files
have to use a special filename convention).

it also searches for packages provided by apt (on Debian and derivatives).

how about:
- install "deken".
- go to "Find externals"
- Click on "Show all"
- read the list of all packages you can download?
