I compiled pd v0.39 and then gem v0.9 it seems some functions cause a
complete lockup particularly loading the 08.model.pd example in the 01.
basic directory.

I ran an strace on it then stripped the trace file of chaff using sed,
the last major commands in the log before I lost keyboard/gnome/x were

ioctl(15, FIONREAD, [0]) = 0
ioctl(15, FIONREAD, [0]) = 0
ioctl(15, FIONREAD, [0]) = 0
recv(4, ".x8149350 menuclose 1;\n", 3650, 0) = 23
ioctl(10, 0xc0384641, 0xbfffd934) = 0
munmap(0xb54d8000, 266240) = 0
munmap(0xb592b000, 266240) = 0
munmap(0xb5523000, 8192) = 0
munmap(0xb5525000, 8192) = 0
munmap(0xb5527000, 8192) = 0

munmap(0xb551f000, 8192) = 0
munmap(0xb551b000, 8192) = 0
munmap(0xb5519000, 8192) = 0
munmap(0xb551d000, 8192) = 0
munmap(0xb596c000, 622592) = 0
munmap(0xb58ea000, 266240) = 0
shutdown(15, 2 /* send and receive */) = 0
close(15) = 0
shmat(4294967295, 0, 0) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
shmdt(0xb57a9000) = 0
ioctl(10, 0xc00c4642, 0xbfffd95c) = 0
brk(0x824b000) = 0x824b000
send(4, ".x8149350.c delete l814b060\n.x81"..., 3456, 0) = 3456
+++ killed by SIGKILL +++

But the program had only locked the keyboard and Xwindows (mouse still
moved but nothing responded, and still a load of gettimeofday etc.
messages in tracefile (stripped by sed) before the sigkill which was the
power button (only way to restart/break) and everything still seemed to
be running away in background.

I'm wondering if its a gcc compiler/library version problem, would it be
possible to let me know versions of all the libraries and which gcc you
last tested it on linux was? It works OK on my laptop in windows using
windows binaries and has not crashed on me once, but the directx opengl
seems slower than opengl on my xorg fc3 CCRMA linux box (on the patches
where gem works...:))

I'm using nvidia display drivers?, Maybe its the gem patches? I'm
stumped, any help appreciated.

Its a shame because pd/bonk~/gem with RT audio in looks a superb concept.
