[PD-dev] openpanel causes Pd to exit on XP

The openpanel object on WinXP and Pd 0.39 causes Pd to exit randomly.  It
doesn't crash, and the debugger says it simply exits with:

The program '[4032] pd.exe: Native' has exited with code 1 (0x1).

I haven't found any real pattern to this other than doing more than a few
seconds of searching will trigger an exit.  File browsing is somewhat
futile.

Any ideas?
