Incidentally I had a hard time figuring out what that "-d" flag was supposed to mean (without reading the sources), even though it is oh course mentioned in the comments.
I would have suggested something along the lines of "multichannel" (that is: '-m'), but Alex's fan-in/out makes sense as well...
