As a non-native speaker who teaches to lots of non-native speakers I don't
see much of a problem... when people don't the word you have to explain
anyway and if I have to explain about 'snake' I see the benefit of teaching
how the multicable hardware is called in english.

By the way, fun fact, here in Brazil, instead of 'snake' we use 'medusa' :)
I like the opportunity to also teach this term to local students who just
deal with phones and computers and don't have studio/stage/P.A. experience.
