UI duplication offset doesn't make sense

When the duplicate function is selected, by selecting an object and
using ^d, for example, the placement of the new object doesn't make
sense to me; it is just a few pixels down and to the right, and on my
system overlaps the original object.

Wouldn't it make more sense to make the offset a large X and no Y , for
example, so that there is a good chance that the new object will be
usable right where it is?
