New compile new problems

Hello all.

So I re-installed a brand new LinuxPPC on my machine a couple of days ago.
Downloaded pd.  Compiled (it didn't complain about anything!!!

and then when I run it it doesn't respond to most of the menus.
In fact, the only ones that do something is "Getting started" in the Help
menu and Open/Pure Documentation which open the dialog box to load files
but no files want to load.  
In the Find manu I have "last error?" item (only) and it returns this:

Any ideas?
