A new default font for PD is fine, but I would prefer if one could
change fonts in PD itself, say with a nice "Font Dialog". I don't know
Tk well enough, but this can't be *that* hard, can it?

On Linux, or more precisly on XFree86 installing fonts is different,
if you use a fontserver or not. If not, you download the font

$ cd /home/me/myfonts
$ wget http://www.langbox.com/AraMosaic/mozilla/fontXFE/naskhi8XBf12.pcf.Z

Then you have to generate a fonts.dir file

$ mkfontdir /home/me/myfonts

And then make the directory known in the font path (fp)

$ xset fp+ /home/me/myfonts

Now I have a new arabic font:

$ xlsfonts  | grep naskhi
-lbi-naskhi-bold-r-normal--0-0-75-75-m-0-iso8859-6.8x
-lbi-naskhi-bold-r-normal--12-120-75-75-m-70-iso8859-6.8x

If you use the X-fontserver xfs, it's much the same, only you have to
make the fontpath known to xfs:

$ chkfontpath --add /home/me/myfonts

If you want a system wide install, you're in for a ride, because every
distribution has it's own tools to "make it easy".
