[PD] Instatiating

hi list! this is a kind of a naive question but how do I get and abstraction
to be instatiated with a string as an argument.
I max you usually use the #1, #2, and so forth but obviously if tried
that and it didn't work...
Could you please share some light on this regarding PD??
