[PD] Hi! and newbie question.

Hello!  My name is Roby and I'll be reading your post to see if I can =
learn to use PD.  I'll posting some questions to you too from time to =
time, but I'll try not to make them stupid, LOL.  Anyway, glad to be =
here.

Here's my first 2 questions:
1) How come screen re-draws on PD are so slow?  Does PD need some type =
of
 special video driver or setting?
 2) What would be a good non-PD source of reference to help me learn PD
 faster?  By this I mean programming books, or DSP books, etc.
