i agree.  this seems to meet many peoples needs and will cause no 
breakage.  and yes, being able to specify a name and datatype would be a 
great boon to usability for new users.  every time i teach pd to someone 
they always feel kind of overwhealmed trying to remember what each 
inlet/outlet does.
