[PD] diffrent numbers of in and outchannels

hi list
is there anyone how nows the meaning of "in and outchannels must match" 
. .cause i try to evaluate if  i have to buy a new soundcard like 
multiface to get more then 2 outchannels by simultaneous use of in and 
outchannels, ore if  i can wait  a litle wile more to use my suppercool 
usb maya ex for 99 dollars witch has 2 in and 6 out  witch is exactly my 
need to work with pd . ...
