[PD] load_object: Symbol "_pdp_pidip_setup" not found

Hi,
having tracked down all the library files i'm getting this now:

load_object: Symbol "_pdp_pidip_setup" not found
/usr/local/lib/pd/pdp_pidip_osx/pdp_pidip: can't load library

my .pdrc file points to the library -lib 
/usr/local/lib/pd/pdp_pidip_osx/pdp_pidip
so i guess the first error is stopping the library from loading?

is it normal to run into such problems or am I making a pigs ear of 
this? (be gentle!)
