i've reverted the cvs version of pdsend to the old behaviour, since it's
not really needed ...
i'm not into applescript programming at all since i use linux, but it
shouldn't be very hard to write a shell script with

echo message to pd\; | pdsend 4444
instead of
pdsend 4444 localhost tcp "message to pd;"

anyway, if there are some people, who'd like to get this feature, i
could publish the changes in the external repository as pdextsend or
something like that ... but i prefer you use one of the scripting
possibilities, since you won't have to change pdsend for that ...
although i have to admit that the script readability is better with the
message as command line argument instead of | / echo combinations ...

let me know ... cheers...
