personally i wouldn't use [makesymbol], because i consider it buggy and it
really doesn't do what i want it too. (it think the only advantage is that you
can set the format-string)

if [makefilename] can complete the task, it is definitely the way to go (i guess
it might only be usable if the "x" is not changing)

for constructing complex symbols i would use [l2s] ([list2symbol] from zexy).
while the default delimiter between list-atoms is " " (space) you can set it to
whatever you want. (and probably your [receive] will even like the space, as it
is within(!) the symbol)
