There's no reason why it would be any faster.

It's not like anyone *really* wanted to speed it up. I'm still the only 
one to have ever claimed on pd-list to have hacked the Tk Canvas code to 
make it faster. I mean, if anyone else cared that much, I would have 
noticed big time.
