[PD] Do I need 2 Gem/PD instances for this application

Just curious, if [pix_write] would become an abstraction as described
avove how would one do the encoding of still images saved from
[pix_buffer] into a (compressed) video file without using external tools
(ffmpeg, mencoder) then?
