to confuse users, there's two different verbosities:
- the verbosity of the Pd-core, which you can control with the
"-verbose" flag
AND
- the log-level of the Pd-GUI, which you can control via the pull-down
menu in the Pd-console (and which will get remembered for the next start)

the former controls the amount of messages generated  by Pd-core. (how
much there is to show)
the latter controls the amount of messages suppressed by Pd-GUI. (how
much to show)
