rme (hammerfall, etc) have compiled some very interesting
recommendations about notebooks for audio:

(the first five or so links).  it's slightly
windows-centric, but much of it is general and could be
useful when considering linux (rme's long-term support for
linux is notable, even if it is primarily via third
parties).
