Initial Comment:

I am here in Gijón, Asturias teaching at Laboral, and we went thru these patches with the newbies.  Many of them were confused by some minor details, so I simplified the patches and added some GUI objects to make them very easy to play with.  

Plus, I used the gemwin subpatch from the Gem help patches.
