[PD] CPU load

Hi,

I have patch that  uses between 50 and 65 % of the CPU load according 
to the load meter from Miller (under menu help).
When it goes over 60% there are a lot of audio drops and cuts. Is this 
normal ?
How can I optimised my system ?
I am running pd36 on OSX with built-in sound card. The computer is a G4 
400Mhz with 640MRAM. Has the Ram something to do with it  ?
Any advice will be great.
