the advantage over what?
iemguts does not seek to compete with other objects. instead it mainly
aims to provide low-level access to the patching system.

i think you are mistaking [canvasname] for some user-driven feature of
pd-l2ork. you might be able to implement such a feature with
[canvasname], but it's not already the implementation.
(and actually i think that it is not very good at implementing this
very feature...)

in practice, i've been using this object to implement an automatic
version control system for patching.
