[PD-ot] OT networking hubs ?

greetings list

id love to network several computers running puredata OSC , but i have no 
experince of networking other then what i have learned with puredata and the 
likes running on 1 machine ..

i presume i need some sort of hardware hub device to communicate to a batch 
of machines ?
dose anyone here have experience networking several computers for use with 
puredata ?

if so could you perhaps point me in the direction of what hardware i might 
want to look at?
or even a place i could learn more about the ins and outs of networking .

im asking on the list because i plan to purchase several linux desktops 
primarily for use with puredata
and i dont want to have any nasty pit falls :D
